What's it all about?

The objective of this qualification is to equip you with the knowledge, skills, and understanding required to deliver personalised care in a non-clinical setting and/or in the community setting. In doing so, you will implement the knowledge and skills learnt within the RSPH Social Prescribing Course for patients/clients. This qualification plays a vital role in promoting the health and well-being of individuals, groups, and communities. It supports the community by alleviating pressure on mainstream services, forming a key component of this innovative initiative.

The qualification aligns with the learning outcomes outlined in the core capabilities for enabling and supporting people in community-based settings, as defined by the Personalised Care Institute curriculum.

Course information

Session 1: Starter session

This day will consist of providing you with the foundations and essentials of social prescribing, so that you can refer to the depth and detail of work completed. We will begin to complete workbook unit 1 throughout the first day. The content on day one includes an introduction of the lecturer and students. You will then proceed to explore the essentials of social prescribing as well as the impact of this work, we will further explore various journals, analyse statistics and elaborate on the evidence.

Session 2: Materials

You will begin to develop your work and build on the social prescribing foundations, this will include the in depth role of the social prescriber. This will include the various benefits and local resources to support the amazing work you will be doing following the completion of this certificate. A key area of focus will include the worker’s ability to learn and support behaviour change and build support and resilience. You will then explore the correct use of such support tools.

Session 3: Effective social prescribing

You will be involved in lots of debates, discussions, questions and answers to understand the current learning which has been implemented thus far. You will begin to further evidence the work completed in the world of social prescribing. Enter discussions around and find supporting evidence to suggest the impact of social prescribing. As social prescribing is “very new” you will further explore the potential of this work and shape the future regarding the benefits of social prescribing for the near future.

Session 4: Case study

You will be asked to create a support/care plan using the social prescribing model; this will be your very own case study. Students will share their thoughts and ideas. This will conclude the final part of your workbook.

Session 5: Reflection

Students will begin to review their learning and answer questions regarding their learning. You will further be asked to teach the teacher to show your level of understanding and how social prescribing can be implemented within your current role. Students will finish up on the workbooks provided for each session as well as share findings and provide suggestions, questions and answers.

In order to be successful on this course, you will need to have GCSEs in English and maths at grade 4 (C) or above.

You will be assessed by the completion of workbooks, as well as an interactive assessment which includes the completion of a case study.
