What's it all about?

This course is ideal if you’re considering a career in the Police Service. It’s led by three former officers with a range of experience, including time in Special Branch, CID and as a Police Inspector – bringing over 60 years of combined knowledge to the classroom. You’ll also hear from guest speakers from across the service and take part in site visits to see how things work behind the scenes.

Course information

The course covers the following units:

  • skills for outdoor activities
  • planning for and responding to emergency incidents
  • introduction to criminology
  • teamwork, leadership, and communication in the uniformed protective services
  • global affairs
  • the media and the uniformed protective services
  • behaviour and discipline
  • government and the protective services
  • citizenship and diversity
  • principles of managing security threats
  • physical preparation and health/wellbeing.

In order to be successful on this course, you will need five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English language and maths.

You will be assessed through both exams and coursework.

Following successful completion, you could progress to:

  • a related degree at university
  • a career in the Police, Military, or other Protective Services.
